Start Your Custom Project

Planning an IKEA built-in, custom closet, cabinetry, shelving, or woodworking project?

Custom projects involve more than a standard handyman visit. Here’s what to expect, what affects the budget,
and how to share your project with our team.

Initial project review is free. Detailed design and site assessments may be paid services.

Custom Work Involves
More Than Installation

Behind every finished built-in are measurements, planning, material sourcing, fabrication, transportation, installation, and finishing.

In New York City, we also have to account for uneven walls, tight spaces, building restrictions, elevator coordination, and delivery logistics.

Depending on the scope, your project may involve multiple site visits, workshop fabrication, and several weeks from initial planning to completion.

This is why custom projects often cost more than people initially anticipate.

What Should You Expect to Invest?

Custom work is priced around the entire project, not just the time spent installing it.

For reference, here are examples from our IKEA PAX built-in services:

IKEA PAX With a Built-In Appearance: $2,500–$6,000+

Typically involves assembly, custom fillers, trim, leveling, gap closures, and integrated finishing details.

More Extensive Custom PAX Built-Ins: $6,000–$15,000

May involve additional carpentry, upper cabinets, decorative panels, molding, and more involved finishing.

These are examples of IKEA PAX project ranges, not fixed prices or minimums for other custom carpentry services. Actual pricing and inclusions depend on your design, materials, building conditions, and scope of work.

If you only need straightforward furniture assembly or a small handyman project, please use our standard handyman request form.

Design & Planning Are
Separate Services

We’re happy to help bring your ideas to life, whether you have completed plans or are starting with inspiration photos.

Your initial project review is free. We’ll review the details you submit to determine whether we’re a good fit and recommend the next steps.

Projects requiring professional design, detailed measurements, material research, custom layouts, or in-person technical consultations may require a paid planning service.

We’ll explain any applicable fees and what’s included before moving forward. There’s no obligation to proceed.

How Our Process Works

1. Submit Your Project Details

Share your project goals, photos, approximate measurements, inspiration, and intended budget.

2. Initial Project Review

Our team reviews your submission to determine feasibility, scope, and the appropriate next step.

3. Design, Assessment & Proposal

If additional planning or measurements are needed, we’ll explain the process and any applicable fees before proceeding. Once the scope is established, we can prepare a project proposal.

4. Fabrication, Installation & Finishing

After project approval, we’ll coordinate the required materials, workshop preparation, building access, installation, and finishing.

Not every project requires all four stages.
